Ah, 1A48, due Peterborough 22.14. Rapidly approaching Outwood, bout 5 or so mins from Wakey Westgate.

1 Alpha 48... Are you using CCLDB? How have you managed to circumnavigate the fact they've changed the username/pass as I can't use it anymore.

I thought Badger worked for the railways and thus had legitimate use of CCLDB, unlike the rest of us. Plus TOCs such as Virgin Trains got charged per use of CCLDB (but apparently London Midland paid for unlimited access or something..)

South Eastern's unlim was the one I was using. user South pass Eastern. Changed when the new timetable was launched. If they pay for unlimited use let us all use it haha.

Probably not because they don't suffer the sudden temperature changes experience when exiting the Chunnel.

Sure, but I think they use other tunnels, on the Atlantique route at least....

The other bad thing about the tube in winter is that they insist on opening all the doors at all the stations on the above ground sections, even though the newer trains are all fitted with passenger operated door opening buttons! And it has very little, if any, on train heating!

Lucky for Jolteon I am on holiday in snowed up County Durham or else I would be filling this thread up with my 2-3 times daily train journeys rather than spam. I so miss the tube (naaaaaaaat).

Well that's the thing - the District line D-stock had door-operating buttons but they were covered up during the refurbishment works. A stationary train at Upminster or Wimblepong waiting 15 mins in the snow for the correct time of departure, or even the mandatory 5 minute louge-about at Earl's Court is going to severely freeze out the trains.

There's no door controls on the 2009 Victoria Line stock but I suppose that's for obvious reasons. On the other hand, the Class 378 Overground stock uses them for every station. I wonder if the Victoria Line has any heating whatsoever!

Indeed, it is admittedly likely to be so. I do wish Northern could afford nicer things, as much as I love 14*s, I do think they're in need of retirement.

The 144s are just about passable on that route (it being for some reason mostly long welded rail, plus they have vaguely comfortable/spacious seating) and on Leeds-Hudds/Caldervale stoppers, but they really ought to be the benchmark of rolling stock, i.e. nothing worse than this, please!

Indeed yes. The 14x class was designed to be a cheap alternative to loco-hauled trains by putting a bus on wheels. Just like the 15x was Sprinters by producing lowish-cost diesel units to replace locos.
